While the exact dates can differ each year, shorter days and cooler weather are part of every Fall season. Or Autumn, if you prefer the British English term.
With the cooler weather and shorter days come a whole new crop of fruits, veggies, herbs, and spices. What fun!
Fresh produce tastes best in season.
We generally shop that way, even though many fresh fruits and veggies are available year-round in San Francisco. Plus, in-season produce is usually less expensive. So we pay less for foods that taste better!
I’ve chosen three fruits, three veggies, and three to four herbs and spices for each season. These are things that we like and are readily available in our area. They are also common in recipes prepared that time of year.
Plus they fit the weather of the season — warm and cozy in the cooler months and cool and refreshing in the warmer months.
Enjoy them while you can!
An awareness of which fruits and veggies are seasonal helps ensure you enjoy those seasonal gems when available. Of course, it’s good to eat a variety of other things, too.
Keep your kitchen stocked The Paprika Palace way and you will always have a delicious variety of dried herbs and spices to choose from, no matter what time of year.
We also grow a handful of fresh herbs, as many as our small city space will allow. So make good use of whatever space you have. You’ll be surprised how many herbs you can grow on one little windowsill!
