A little organization can go a long way to make things go smoothly, whether in the kitchen, at work, or anywhere else. And the more smoothly things go, the less stress everyone involved will feel. Both clutter and an inability to find what you want when you want it is never characteristics of a calm, peaceful, delightful environment. With this in mind, you are the king or queen of your stuff. It’s there to serve YOU, not stress you out.
Plus, if you are dealing with a smaller space (like we are), a little organization can help make the most of every inch. My husband was a bit concerned when he saw 30-something 8-cup mason jars come through the door. And he was even more surprised at how effortlessly they all fit on top of our cabinets. That’s at least 240 cups of dried goods, attractively displayed, clearly labeled, and easy enough to get to that could have easily gone unused. 240 cups! That’s enough to serve those wholesome oats every morning for 2 months for the two of us!
In addition, a little organization can add some wiggle room to a busy schedule. Even if you know where everything is, it can still take some time to get to what you want if it’s not kept in a convenient place. Or worse yet, things come toppling down on you when you open the cabinet. It’s not only time-consuming to stuff all that stuff back inside, but it’s also dangerous! People spend several days every year looking for things they can’t find. Several days at the beach sound like way more fun to me!
The key is to find what works for YOU.
Hopefully something here will give you some ideas and inspire you to make a few small changes. Because those small changes can add up to something bigger and better than you’d expect!
Here are some things that work for US, in our small, city-living kitchen.
